Alex Lyon will start Tuesday in Buffalo.

Lyon has undoubtedly been the Red Wings' best goaltender since making his debut several weeks ago and will start for the fifth time in their last eight games on Tuesday. In four games (3-1-0), Lyon has a sparkling 1.26 GAA and .958 SV%. His .750 quality start rate this season is through a very small sample size but seems mildly attainable given that he had a .714 QS% through 14 starts last season. The Red Wings have won five of their last six (5-1-0) and are -132 road favourites against a Buffalo Sabres team that has lost three straight (0-3-0), being outscored 14-7 in the process.

Patrick Kane practiced in full with Detroit Monday for the first time since signing last week but is not expected to make his debut Tuesday vs. Buffalo.

Kane has been ruled out of Tuesday's game against the Buffalo Sabres but his Red Wings' debut seems imminent as he was a full participant at practice for the first time on Monday. Kane skated alongside Joe Veleno and former Blackhawks teammate Alex DeBrincat on the Red Wings' second line. Kane seems to be a lock, at least for the time being, with DeBrincat, but there will likely be some line shuffling, especially since J.T. Compher was not at practice, as Kane reacclimates himself to gameplay.

Dylan Larkin (personal) is expected to draw back into the Red Wings' lineup Saturday vs. Montreal.

Larkin missed the Red Wings' previous two games but is expected to draw back into the lineup Saturday as they head to Montreal. The 27-year-old Detroit captain has been sensational this season, on pace for career highs in goals and points due to his eight goals, 13 assists, 69 SOG, 29 PIMs and +3 plus/minus in 20 games played so far this season.

Jonatan Berggren has been reassigned to the Grand Rapids Griffins (AHL).

Berggren has been reassigned to the Grand Rapids Griffins of the AHL after playing two games with the Red Wings, recording two points (0G / 1A), and averaging 11:36 time-on-ice. Berggren was originally recalled to replace Dylan Larkin (undisclosed), who has been away from the team. Nothing is official yet, but Berggren's reassignment to the AHL is an indication that Larkin might return to the lineup on Saturday.

Ville Husso will start Wednesday vs. the New York Rangers.

Husso did not play on Sunday and has mostly served as a backup since the emergence of Alex Lyon, but is coming off his best performance in over a month, saving 25 of 27 shots (.926 SV%) in a 5-2 win over the Boston Bruins on Friday. His terrific performance against the Bruins might be hard to replicate on Wednesday, as the Red Wings are expected to be without Dylan Larkin and are facing off against the New York Rangers, who have only two regulation losses in the last five weeks (13-2-1).

Jake Wallman (illness) is expected to be ready to go Wednesday vs. the New York Rangers.

Walman was unavailable due to an illness in the last two games for the Red Wings but will likely return to the lineup on Wednesday against the New York Rangers. Walman has eight points (4G/ 4A), 34 shots on goal, and a +8 plus/minus rating through 18 games this season.

Dylan Larkin (undisclosed) is out Wednesday and unlikely Thursday vs. Chicago.

Larkin's absence at practice, along with the call-up of Jonatan Berggren on Tuesday, signals that his status for the Red Wings game against the New York Rangers on Wednesday is up in the air. Larking is in the midst of a three-game point streak, scoring four points (3G / 1A) and firing 14 shots on goal in that time.

Dylan Larkin (undisclosed) missed practice Tuesday and is questionable for Wednesday vs. the Rangers.

Detroit has signed Patrick Kane to a one-year, $2.75 million contract.

After much speculation across the league, Patrick Kane has decided to sign with the Detroit Red Wings. Kane underwent hip surgery in the offseason and has not played since a brief playoff run with the New York Rangers in May. It is unclear when Kane will make his Red Wings debut, but he will likely be reunited on a line with former linemate from the Chicago Blackhawks, Alex DeBrincat. Kane scored 57 points (21G / 36A) in 73 games between the Rangers and Blackhawks last season but scored above a point-per-game pace in each of his previous four seasons.

Lyon will start Sunday vs. the Wild.

Lyon will draw his third start in four games Sunday as he takes the crease vs. the Minnesota Wild. The 30-year-old netminder signed a two-year contract in the offseason with the Red Wings and has a 1-1-0 record, 1.53 GAA and .933 SV%. He will face the struggling Minnesota Wild, who have dropped six-straight games and are 19th in the NHL in goals per game (3.06).

Walman (illness) is not expected to play Sunday vs. the Wild.

Walman had just returned for a full game after leaving early from the Global Series in Sweden but will now be forced to miss Sunday due to illness. The 27-year-old defencement has enjoyed an incredibly strong start to his 2023-24 season on Detroit's top pair, with four goals, four assists, 34 SOG, 18 PIMs and a +7 plus/minus through 18 games played.
