Ville Heinola has suffered a fractured ankle and is expected to miss approximately 8-12 weeks.

Heinola suffered a fractured ankle in the Jets' final preseason game and is now expected to miss anywhere from eight to 12 weeks. It is a big loss for Winnipeg's back six as the 22-year-old was entering his fifth season with the Jets after producing an assist, five SOG and a -5 plus/minus through 10 games in 2022-23. He has one goal and 10 assists across 35 career games played in the NHL but has never appeared in more than 12 for the Jets in any one season.

The Jets have reassigned Ville Heinola to Lukko Rauma of the Finnish Liiga.

Heinola was the No.20 overall pick in this summer's NHL Draft and appeared in eight games with the Jets and three games with Manitoba (AHL) before being sent back to Finland. Appearing in just eight games with Winnipeg keeps the first year of Heniola's entry-level deal intact. The 18-year-old defenseman had 14 points (2G / 12A) in 34 games with Lukko Rauma last year.

The Jets have sent Ville Heinola to Manitoba (AHL).

Heinola was a healthy scratch for the last two games and with the addition of Luca Sbisa he gets pushed to the AHL. He was also up against the nine-game mark that would burn the first year of his entry-level contract. This summer's No.20 overall pick had five points (1G / 4A) in eight games with the Jets.

Heinola will be back in the Jets lineup on Thursday.

The rookie defenseman has been a healthy scratch for the last three games but will be back in against the Islanders. Heinola is closing in on nine games played, which will force the Jets to keep him and burn the first year of his ELC or send him down and keep the ELC intact. So far, he has one goal on eight shots and two assists while playing 19:16 ATOI in five games.
