The Canucks placed two players on injured reserve Wednesday opening the door for Shelden Dries to earn the call-up from Abbotsford (AHL). In 59 career NHL games, the 28-year-old has five goals and nine points while playing for the Canucks and Avalanche.

Dries did not appear in either of the Canucks first two games of the season and was sent to the AHL to make room for Noah Juulsen after Tucker Poolman was injured on Saturday. Dries had 35 goals and 27 assists (62 points) in 54 games with Abbotsford (AHL) last year.

Dries is expected to suit up for the second time this season.

Sheldon Dries has accepted his qualifying offer, signing a one-year deal worth $771K.
Dries spent almost all of 2020 in the AHL, scoring 21 goals with 14 assists (35 points) in 50 games with the Colorado Eagles. The 26-year-old did appear in five game with the Avalanche and now has six points (3G / 3A) in 45 career NHL games. With the Avalanche having one of the deepest forward groups in the NHL, Dries is likely destined for the AHL in 2021.

The Avalanche have re-signed Sheldon Dries to a one-year contract.
Dries split his 2019 campaign between the Colorado Avalanche and Colorado Eagles (AHL). During his time in the NHL, the 25-year-old centre had three goals and three assists in 40 games. Dries will likely be a fringe NHLer to start the 2020 season. The P-E Bellemare signing this offseason will likely push him back to the NHL to start though.

Dries was a healthy scratch in Anaheim on Sunday but will replace Gabriel Bourque on Tuesday. Dries has averaged just 9:06 TOI/gm this season, scoring three goals with three assists (six points) in 39 games.

Dries has split his campaign between the NHL and AHL. During his time with the Avalanche, Dries has four points (2G / 2A) in 16 games. Dries could be back in the lineup on Saturday with Colin Wilson going on IR.
