The 28-year-old centre is entering his 11th NHL season after being the sixth overall draft pick in 2013.

The Canadiens have acquired Sean Monahan and a conditional 1st round pick from the Flames for future considerations.
Monahan has been placed on LTIR and will undergo season-ending surgery on his hip.
Monahan has had a tough season, playing primarily in the Flames' bottom-6 and will end his season prematurely due to hip surgery. The Flames acquired Ryan Carpenter from the Blackhawks at the trade deadline and he will likely serve as a full-time replacement for Monahan.

Playing through a hip injury could help explain some of his inconsistencies throughout the season.
