Sandin was acquired from the Maple Leafs on Tuesday in exchange for Erik Gustafsson and a 2023 first-round pick. His offensive production could see a boost in Washington if he's able to get some ice time with Alexander Ovechkin on the Caps' top power-play unit.

Sandin has not played since December 5th due to a knee injury but was also placed on the COVID-19 protocol list during that time. Sandin will be back on the Maple Leafs blueline and second power-play unit vs. the Senators and has eight assists and a plus-5 rating in 25 games this season.

Sandin is expected to miss 2-to-3 weeks with a lower-body damage.
Sandin's MRI revealed no structural damage, so he won't be out as long as originally feared. Head coach Sheldon Keefe told reporters on Monday that the young blueline is expected to be sidelined for at least two weeks.
