Michael Sgarbossa has signed a two-year, two-way contract extension ($775,000 AAV).
Sgarbossa had 21 goals, 37 assists, 38 PIMs and a +19 plus/minus through 60 games with the Hershey Bears (AHL) in 2022-23 and has signed a two-year, two-way contract extension ($775,000 AAV). The 30-year-old has four goals and 16 points through 65 career NHL games across eight seasons but failed to see any NHL action in 2022-23.
The Capitals have recalled Michael Sgarbossa from Hershey (AHL).
The Capitals sent Axel Jonsson Fjällby to the AHL yesterday to preserve his waiver exempt status, so Sgarbossa and Beck Malenstyn come up to help replace T.J. Oshie and Conor Sheary. Sgarbossa is leading Hershey in goals (8) and points (14) through 15 games this season.

Sgarbossa has spent most of his career in the AHL, where he's been a prolific scorer, but has just 10 points (2G / 8A) in 48 career NHL games with the Avalanche, Ducks and Panthers. The 27-year-old forward has 14 points (7G / 7A) to lead Hershey through 17 games this season. He could replace Garnet Hathaway in the lineup on Wednesday if Hathaway gets suspended.
The Capitals have re-signed Mike Sgarbossa to a two-year deal worth $1.4M ($700K).
Sgarbossa has bounced around the league in his career but has been a good AHL scorer along the way. The 26-year-old led Hershey in points (65) and was second in goals (30) during 2018-19 and will likely remain with the Bears to start 2020.

Sgarbossa left Tuesday’s game with an undisclosed injury and did not return.
Sgarbossa left after being hit hard by Rangers’ forward Chris Kreider and did not return. It was immediately apparent that Sgarbossa was hurt, but he has a few days to recover before the Panthers next game on Friday.
