Hughes (upper body) has been placed on the Injured Reserve retroactive to January 5th.
Hughes has already missed 11 games this season, eight with his current ailment, and although he still has a week-to-week prognosis, he appears to be making progress toward returning. The Devils have struggled, going 3-5 with Hughes out of the lineup.

Hughes has already missed six games this season with a separate injury and provides another blow to an injury-depleted Devils club that is already without Timo Meier, Jonas Siegenthaler, Dougie Hamilton, and Ondrej Palat. Dawson Mercer has moved into the top six and onto the top powerplay unit and should be the main benefactor of offensive deployment during Hughes' absence.

Hughes left Friday's game after a heavy collision with the end-boards and did not return. While there's been no official update from the team, words is Hughes is expected to "miss some time" but the "worst-case scenario has been avoided." With Hughes out, the Devils recalled Maxwell Willman from Utica (AHL).

Hughes shed his no-contact jersey in Devil's practice earlier today but will still miss their matchup Thursday vs. St. Louis as he deals with his upper-body injury. Hughes is having an incredible season, with 35 goals, 32 assists, 229 SOG, and a +15 plus/minus through 50 games played.

Hughes was having a phenomenal season with 35 goals, 67 points, 229 SOG, and a +15 plus/minus through 50 games played but will miss weeks due to an upper-body injury. It is an unfortunate loss for the fourth year star as he has never played more than 61 games in a season in his career.
