Hughes (upper body) will return on Thursday vs. Calgary.

Hughes has not played since January 5th but will return to the lineup on Thursday against the Calgary Flames. The Devils are coming off an impressive 5-3 victory over the Colorado Avalanche on Tuesday but have predominantly struggled in Hughes' absence. Hughes has been limited to only 32 games in an injury-plagued 2023-24 campaign but has 45 points (15G / 30A).

Hughes (upper body) returned to the Devils' practice in a regular jersey Tuesday but will not play vs. Colorado.

Hughes has not played since January 5th but has a chance to return to the lineup this week as he is considered day-to-day. Regardless of his exact return date, his presence as a full participant at practice on Tuesday is an encouraging sign for a Devils club that has struggled in his absence. Hughes has been limited to only 32 games in an injury-plagued 2023-24 campaign but has 45 points (15G / 30A) in that span.

Hughes (upper body) will be out week-to-week.

Hughes and the Devils avoided a much worse prognosis on Tuesday morning, but the star forward will still be out of the lineup on a week-to-week basis as he recovers from an upper-body injury. Hughes has already missed six games this season with a separate injury and provides another blow to an injury-depleted Devils club that is already without Timo Meier, Jonas Siegenthaler, Dougie Hamilton, and Ondrej Palat. Dawson Mercer has moved into the top six and onto the top powerplay unit and should be the main benefactor of offensive deployment during Hughes' absence.

Hughes left Friday's game against the Blackhawks late in the third period and did not return.

Hughes left for the locker room with only a couple of minutes remaining in the game, and it's unclear at this time whether or not the injury would have prevented him from returning to the game. His status for Saturday's game his brother Quinn and the Canucks is currently unknown.

Hughes (shoulder) is on the ice for warmups and is expected to play against the Rangers on Saturday.

Hughes last played on November 3rd when he fell awkwardly into the boards but appears ready to return to action on Saturday after being a full participant at practice on Friday. This would mark approximately two weeks since Hughes last played, the low end of his initial two-to-four-week timeline. Before his injury, Hughes led the league with 20 points (5G / 15A) in 10 games and is expected to retake his place on the Devils' top line and top powerplay unit.

Hughes is week-to-week with an upper-body injury.

Hughes suffered an upper-body injury during Friday's loss in St. Louis after crashing into the end-boards in the first period. As previously reported, Hughes avoided the worst-case scenario but is still expected to miss time. While meeting with the media on Sunday, head coach Lindy Ruff called Hughes week-to-week. Hughes has cleared COVID-19 protocol and is expected to be back in the lineup on Sunday.

Hughes landed on the COVID-19 protocol list after going to the All-Star game in Vegas. He was back on the ice for Saturday's practice and is expected to play Sunday vs. the Penguins. Unfortunately, it looks like he'll be taking Jesper Bratt's spot in the lineup--Bratt is dealing with an upper-body injury.
